Nawww

(While walking along holding hands) "Mum, when to people hold hands the company goes through their hands and straight to the other person's heart."

New Shelves

My Darling Husband is occasionally required to make my plans come to fruition.  Most recently my request was for some rain guttering shelves for the library books.  One trip to PlaceMakers (and a slightly bemused man there - I'm not sure he believed me when I said what it was for), a little (or a lot) of work by my lovely man and, voila, library book storage!

We've had some more snow:

Look Mum, it's a WHOLE METRE!
Which has meant we've been spending a lot of time inside.  Big Brother has been working through his Miquon (maths) book at a rate of knots - he'd like to finish it this week.  He's been measuring things with C-rods...
And playing a little Rush Hour:

Some Art and Writing:
Experimenting with Chalk Pastels and Silhouettes
Little Sister wanted in on the action too, so she's been doing some sorting, counting and fine motor work:

Big Brother's been learning a new song too, but we might save that for another post ;)

Look Mum, Eyes Closed!

Big Brother is enjoying his piano lessons.  He watched The Sound of Music recently and wanted to learn to play "Do a Deer".

Here he is, eyes shut version!

Habits of Mind

Recently I was lucky enough to get a ticket to a seminar on the 16 Habits of Mind run by Karen Boyes here in Christchurch.  The seminar was today and it was great to spend some time doing something for my own brain for a change.  Lots of ideas to consider, and good reminders of things I know but don't always apply.  The slides below are a summary of the habits of mind... interesting things to consider for teaching and living

Holiday Playing Together and Art

Big Brother and Little Sister built a zoo today.  I question their cohabitation choices... I think there might be a few animals missing in the morning.  Then again the animals walking on the fences are security guards, apparently.

Big Brother found some paints while Little Sister was having a sleep.  First he did a lovely job of this printed picture  >>>

Then he decided to branch out on his own... on a familiar theme.
